Cadillac Flight
Published in Paperback by Jove Pubns (December, 1993)
Author: Marshall Harrison
Average review score:

Gripping, Moving, Can't put it Down
Once you start this book, it will be hard to do anything else until you finish. Gripping, moving account of the Thud airstrikes over NVN. Newbies to the Vietnam war will feel admiration for the pilots, and anger toward the war leadership that put politics over lives.

Although Harrison develops his charactors carefully, the reader is pulled rapidly through the unfolding story with its tragedies and triumphs and - surprises.

If you can find the book, get it. But make sure you have a clear couple of days to get through it.

A MILITARY MUST READ FOR INSPIRING PILOTS TO BE
I have read this book several times and I can't get enough of it. The action is non-stop. And the air battles are as real as my flight-sim. This book is right up there with such authors as Dale Brown, Joe Weber, and Leonard B. Scott. I score it a 10. I just wish he would write more.

AWESOME
This is a superb novel based on the Republic F-105 Thunderchief (THUD) pilots in Vietnam. Astounding level of accuracy

God @ Work
Published in Paperback by Destiny Image Publishers (20 June, 2000)
Authors: Rich Marshal, Rich Marshall, and Tommy Tenney
Average review score:

A Book that Leads to Purpose
As a recently saved Christian and a small business owner I found this book very meaningful and full of purpose. It has helped me to discover that my business is my annointing from the Lord.

Commentary for God@Work
A timely work for the 21st century unveiling truths concerning God's order and calling of men's lives and Corporate America versus Ministry.

It is doctrinally correct and is written very well.

A New Breath of Life
We too long have thought that "ministry" was something that really only the ordained ministers could do. Even though many churches have had in their ethos what is called "the priesthood of all believers" practically speaking most of the church including the evangelical church have relied on the "pastor or minister" for nearly all "real" ministry. Rich Marshall repents as one of many pastors who have set the "non-clergy" aside as not quite measuring up to God's purpose. The fresh revelation is that there is a "priestly" anointing (the pastors) and a "kingly" anointing (professionals, businessmen, and other Christians). Both anointings are for ministry and both vital for the coming revival. This book could well blow a new breath of life into the ministry of the church by making legitimate the ministry of what was once referred to as the laity. Let it happen!

The Hidden Feelings of Motherhood: Coping with Stress, Depression, and Burnout
Published in Paperback by New Harbinger Pubns (09 August, 2001)
Authors: Kathleen A. Kendall-Tackett PhD., Phyllis Klaus M.F.T. C.S.W., Marshall H., M.D. Klaus, and Ph.D., Kathleen A. Kendall-Tackett
Average review score:

Excellent book for both women and men
Dr. Kendall-Tackett's book provides an excellent articulation of the
various difficulties faced by mothers. The book succinctly explains
current academic knowledge and makes it relevant to the lived
experiences of mothers in today's families. Written in a truly caring
tone, the book does an outstanding job of placing the reader at ease
about challenges they may face as mothers and offers a wide array of
highly effective solutions. Written primarily for mothers, this book
also provides men with useful insights into the difficulties faced by
their mothers, wives, sisters and friends, and so can help them to both
sympathize and effect changes to help the mothers in their lives.

an important subject; would be helpful for ALL mothers
The role of the mother in modern day time is honored throughout this book and it is written in a positive tone with the utmost respect for women and mothers. The author acknowledges both stay at home mothers and employed mothers without entering the "Mommy Wars" or even getting into a discussion of what she thinks is best (because she recognizes that what is best for each person is different and unique to that individual). The role of mother is have is not always an easy one. The difficulties, pressures, and stressors of the modern mother are outlined including some historical information about the role of the mother and technological changes regarding housework over the last couple of hundred years. The author contends that each of us is in control of our lives and how we choose to react to these stressors is up to us. By becoming aware of the various things that can make our lives miserable, we can pick and choose which things we want to do or not do or how we react to things, so that life is manageable for us and we can lead happy lives. The author explains that if stress builds up burnout and depression can occur.

This book is not negative in tone. It provides good information to orient the mother as to why there is good reason for feeling overwhelmed with all that she has to do. I have not read any book on this subject that has this focus, this unique attitude of holding motherhood as an important role and providing ideas for how mother can remain sane and happy in her role. This is not like some books that basically have the tone that as a stay at home mother we should feel privileged and not have anything to complain about. The author also does not blame the mother for lifestyle choices she makes and then saying it is her fault. This book applies to all mothers, not just mothers of babies. The author is not judgmental about parenting choices and as an example, portrays breastfeeding in a positive light and mentions cosleeping as fine if that is what works best for your family.

Here is a listing of what is covered in the order of the chapters: stress, what it is; depression, recognizing it, how to get treatment, treatment options; burnout, what it is, recognizing it, how to avoid it. History of the housewife in America, how we arrived where we're at, are our jobs easier now that we have modern appliances? Working outside the home, why mothers might want to combine work and motherhood, making it manageable, making the decision to work. How to lightening housework to a manageable level, sharing duties with spouse and children, organizing the household so it runs smoothly. Sleep deprivation, what it is and how it affects our bodies and mental state. Adult survivors of childhood abuse: physical, verbal, sexual and how it affects the parent, including how it may affect breastfeeding and general mothering issues. The added stress of living with a "spirited" child (such as ADD/ADHD), the special stress of living with a child with medical problems. Dealing with miscarriage, stillbirth, or death of infant, the effects these have on the mother (even if society doesn't fully recognize this type of mourning or stress). The Epilogue gives hope for the future and tips for making things best for you as an individual.

Each chapter has an extensive listing of books and some websites on the various subjects covered in that chapter. The book appears well researched with a long reference research list. Overall it is very easy to read and interesting. It has helped me not feel as guilty for feeling overwhelmed at times. I think every mother would gain something from reading this. It is nice to see that someone realizes how hard the job of mothering is and understands that the role can cause stress, burnout and even depression in even the most capable and intelligent woman.

A must have for all women who have children in thier lives.
While reading this book many thoughts went through my mind. But the one thought that would not leave me is that I wish this book had been around when I was raising my children. Now that I have finished reading it both my daughter and my daughter-in-law will be receiving a copy from me. I am a grandmother who has been there and done that (or at least most of it) and found this book to be helpful in explaining why I may have done some of the things that I did or felt when my children were still at home. Ms.Kendall-Tackett has covered every aspect of motherhood in her book. Reading this book was easy and very informative. I love that she has also included many resources and web sites for the reader . As a woman, wife, mother and grandmother, I highly recommend this wonderful book.

The History of Marshall: The Illustrated Story of "the Sound of Rock"
Published in Paperback by Hal Leonard (October, 1993)
Authors: Michael Doyle and Jon Eiche
Average review score:

A Great Reference For Marshall Enthusiasts.
This book does a great job of covering all of the bases that make up Marshall amplifiers. The provision of schematics is really helpful in troubleshooting and just seeing how the amp works. The color section is a joy to look at, and the reprinted catalogs are as well. A great book at any price.

Top Notch Review of the Best Amplifiers Available
This is one comprehensive book. It is a purist's dream. It has pictures of Marshalls dating back to the Hendrix days, including schematics, and closups of the interiors, exteriors, and platforms of the heads, and the cabinets, ranging from the first "BlueBreakers" (Eric Clapton) 2 X 12" cabs to the early 'Pete Townsend' 8 X 12's (that roadies revolted over.

If you ever wanted to know about British Rock, this is IT. It includes sections on the oldest Marshalls, the early Marshalls, the later Marshalls, the Present (and best) Marshalls (I know for a fact), plus sections on valve amplification and THE preiminent speaker manufacturer, Celestion, of Ipswich, UK, and how they prominently figured into the making (and success) of Marshall products.

The one word of caution I picked up on, and had to find out the hard way, is that the valve section, on tube amplification, which is very key to the entire effort, is that that chapter presents the views of Michael Doyle, NOT Jim Marshall, so don't presume every word is gospel from Jim Marshall himself. The comments about specific valves (tubes) are Micheal's views and not those of Jim Marshall. Jim has his own favorite tubes and to my knowledge, they may not be found here. Although it is quite clear that he prefers the soft, fat sound of driven tubes, to the alternatives.

If ever there was a book about the products that brought us the British invasion of the 60's, the Yardbirds, Led Zeppelin, etc, this is it. It is finely written, detailed, but not overly indulgent, factual, and comprehensive. This is one of the best books on amplification I have read. It is a collector's must. A classic.

Excellent. Well documented reference with lots of photos.
This reference book takes you on a well-crafted journey from the early beginnings of Jim Marshall to the release of the JCM900 and 30th Anniversary series amplifiers in the decade of the 90's. Not only is the text easy to read, but there are scores of beautiful, full color plates of Marshall and Park amplifiers from the earliest models to the latest releases. Mr. Doyle has solicited the help of collectors and dealers to bring you photos of rare models that you won't find anywhere else. Historians, collectors, and working musicians alike will want this tome for their library, since it covers important information on Marshall amplifiers such as: model information and product specifications, serials numbers, how to date your amp, and even a special section on Celestion speakers. I enjoyed the catalog reprints that are sprinkled throughout the text. They provide a great way to catch the flavor of the period. Marshall endorsees throughout history are also mentioned. Did you know that Roy Orbison was a Marshall user? How about Pete Townshend? Or Bian Poole and the Tremoloes? Musicians wanting to recreate the sound of certain artists may catch a clue by the amplifier these stars are pictured with. As an added treat, Billy F. Gibbons, lead guitarist for ZZ Top, wrote the spirited introduction to the book. The do-it-yourselfer will appreciate the over 50 pages of circuit diagrams that Mr. Doyle has included. While mostly tube (valve) amp schematics are shown, there are also transistor amp diagrams here. Mr. Doyle has certainly done his homework in this department. Marshall amplifiers helped launch the careers of such rock legends as Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page, and are still considered the upper crust of the amp kingdom. Many of today's artists use Marshall gear in their backline and in the studio. If you've dreamed of owning a Marshall amplifier yourself some day, or are looking for the ideal gift for that hard to please musician on your gift list, I know of no better investment than this handsome volume. - Brett McCarron, webmaster, The Unauthorized Marshall Home Page (http://www.olywa.net/blame/br01000.htm

Hit Your Second Shot First: And Other Secrets of the Kiss Method
Published in Hardcover by K.I.S.S. Group Pub Co (August, 1999)
Authors: Marshall Smith and Tom Ferrell
Average review score:

Golf Made Simple
Marshall Smith has a way of relating golf to anything you might do, whether it is playing another sport, or just shaking hands with a friend. I have had lessons from many golf pros that tried to form my swing. Marshal understands that everyone has a unique swing, but adds some simple concepts that make a world of difference. I went from a 12 handicap to a 2 in just a few lessons from him one summer. Reading the book to me was like actually standing there and listening to him give me advice. I think this is a must have book for golfers of any type- Beginners and Professionals.

Marshall Smith's K.I.S.S. method is amazing
This book is the best golf instruction I have ever received. I've spent thousands of dollars on lessons and training aids and they haven't helped me near as much as this book did. Many instructors make golf way to complicated. Marshall Smith has realized this and implemented his philosophy the "K.I.S.S Method." This book makes perfect sense and is easy to understand. Since reading the book I've recorded 3, under par rounds which is great since I'm a 7 handicap and have never shot under par until now. I am so glad I read this book, I only wish that Mr. Smith would have shared his knowledge with the public years ago.

One of the best new books on teaching Golf
The author tells us he uses the kiss method and boy was he right.I tried his method and it works like no other golf book I have ever read. Iread the book and I could follow his method and it works.

Internet Messaging: From the Desktop to the Enterprise
Published in Paperback by Prentice Hall PTR (15 July, 1998)
Authors: David Strom and Marshall T. Rose
Average review score:

excellent introduction to email
This book does not focus exclusively on a single topic, but instead provides a well-rounded discussion on all things email-related. For example, it does not focus exclusively on any one messaging implementation, nor does it get bogged down on technical discussions of protocols and message boundaries, but instead it covers these topics (and more) as part of a comprehensive discussion on electronic mail in general.

Each chapter tackles a broad subject and then provides a studied discussion of several touchstone issues related to that discussion. For example, there is a chapter on sending email in an enterprise network which provides ample discussions on several subordinate topics, including an introduction to LDAP directories, a summary discussion on various gateways and integration services that are likely to be used in that kind of environment, and details for configuring popular messaging clients to take advantage of these services.

In this regard, Internet Messaging provides a well-rounded introductory discussion on the subject of Internet email at large, making it perhaps the best novice guide on the market. It is especially well-suited for people who are just stepping into messaging concepts, but advanced users and implementors will also find plenty of useful nuggets.

Rose & Strom "get e-mail"
Having only read an excerpt, it's obvious the authors understand e-mail and the valuable role it plays in business-to-consumer communication. If you have customers online, e-mail is a critical part of your communication/marketing strategy. I'm sure this book will help you develop your winning strategy for e-mail. Like Lenny, I'm buying copies for my senior staff.

The primary use of the internet, and most people ignore it.
Important reading for anyone interested in the internet. REQUIRED reading for anyone involved with e-mail, the internet, or e-commerce. I have pre-ordered copies for all my senior staff !!

Learning Journeys: Top Management Experts Share Hard-Earned Lessons on Becoming Great Mentors and Leaders
Published in Hardcover by Davies-Black Pub (15 January, 2000)
Authors: Marshall Goldsmith, Beverly L. Kaye, and Ken Shelton
Average review score:

What Leaders REALLY Need to Know
As an internal consultant in a very large organization, I was thrilled to find this book and could not put it down until I finished it. Senior leaders are expected to be the fount of all knowledge, work in a high-pressure environment, never lose composure and NEVER let them see you sweat! It is, of course, rare to devote any part of a business day to asking the kinds of questions posed in this book. We are using it as a pilot program for leaders to discuss and discover who they are, rather than just what they do.It has given us an opportunity to talk about the very personal issues that a leader must address, and they have taken to it with great enthusiasm. Finishing this book, you are not left so much with the impression of the "guru's wisdom" as you are left to reflect upon your own wisdom. Great book.

Learning Journeys: Top Management Experts Share Hard-Earned
This book is wonderful! It reminds me of "Chicken Soup for the Soul". It touches your heart and inspires at the same time. You get to see "turning points" in the lives of real people. But not just any real people, these people are among the most successful people in the world.

A saturday afternoon read
Learning Journeys is such a pleasant book to read. This book is personal. It¹s personal essays by some of the great management and business leaders in the world. In the book, these leaders reveal the life-changing events of their lives. There are some sad stories, some funny stories, and some spiritual stories: some of the stories are business-related and some are totally personal. What struck me so much about this book is that it reveals the human side of business, something that is so often forgotten.

Living on Nothing Atoll (Aloha Cove)
Published in Paperback by Concordia Publishing House (June, 1999)
Author: Theresa Kelly
Average review score:

Makes you think!
I thought this book was great, and my mom did also! I told her to read it after I was done, and after she did she said she was glad she did. She said it's good for discussions about God, His plan for our lives, and how we are supposed to live for Him. I liked Cass the best since she's the most like me, but the other characters are great too. What I liked best was that they're just regular kids who are trying to be Christians. They're not perfect and they certainly wouldn't say they're perfect, but they try. My mom likes the mom in the book and says she has good sense!

A Great Book For Any Teenage Girl...
I am 15 and an avid reader. I bought the first two Aloha Cove books at a homeschool fair because they looked like they had good plots. I was right they did! I read the books very quickly because I liked them so much! There are very good morals and lessons to be learned from them but they are far from "preachy!" I would reccomend these books for any teenage girl, probably ages 12-16. The characters are well devoloped and aren't dull but they do tend to act a little bit young for their age

Review of Nothing Atoll
Cassandra Devane's mother had been going out with a former highschool friend, Steve Spencer. Cass' dad had died when she was little and Steve's wife had walked out on him and his daughter Tabitha. Cass and Tabitha did exactly hit it off on good terms and when their parents decided to get married it just made their relationship worse. When Cass found out she had to move to Kwajalien, in the Marshall Islands, she flipped out because she didn't want to leave her friends and family. Steve was a news reporter for the radio company there on the island and had moved there a couple of years eariler. After getting to Kwajalein Tabitha immediately left with her friend Kira. Cass mopped around the house mad at God and her mother and Steve for making her move. Finally after a couple of weeks there, Cass accidentally runs into Tabitha's group of friends. Logan, also a newcomer to Kwajalein, immediately became friends with her. When Cass found out that there wasn't a youth group on the island, her favorite thing back home, she was real upset again. Well, her mom talked to the pastor and got one started. Finally after Tabitha and Cass were both tired of fighting and the power went out they finally spilled why they disliked each other so much. I will let you hang there. I thought this was a really good book because my sister and I fight a lot and it gave me a few tips on how to deal with that. This book can be really funny or it can be serious, but thoughout the book it is a real life situation and has tips about dealing with that kind of stuff.
